Pelican RFC vs Gainesville Hogs
February 16th, 2019 • 2:00 PM, Puryear Park
Attendance ~ 250
While playing host to the Gainesville Hogs Rugby Club Saturday afternoon the Pelicans won 34-11. The Hogs proved to be the Pelicans toughest opponent yet, converting two early penalty kicks, to go up 6-0. Soon after the pelicans drove down the pitch and flanker, Guppy, scored the first try of the game. The Hogs responded quickly with their first and only try of the game.
To begin the second half the Pelican defense solidified their dominance, and would not give up another point. In true rugby fashion the Pelican forwards punched their way across the Hogs in-goal area, and prop, Kaz secured a try midway through the second half. Pelicans flanker, Scottie (team captain), and Wing, Aj would also find the try-zone; each grabbing scores of their own. With all those bright spots in a beautiful Pelican victory, lock, Pat, shined the brightest. Picking up two tries in the second half, earning him Man-of-the-Match honours.
We’d like to thank all the Pelican old boys, and supporters, who came out to watch the game. We enjoyed another great after-match social; thanks again to Johnny’s Table and the Pelicans social side for the great food and drink.
