Pelican RFC vs Sarasota Surge RC

February 2nd, 2019

Attendance: ~250

Pelican Rugby supporters came out in massive numbers to enjoy barbecue, and watch the Pelicans first home game of 2019.  They were excited to see  the Pelicans gain another win Saturday afternoon at Jack Puryear Park in St. Petersburg.  Sarasota Surge Rugby Club kept the ball in their own half for the first 20 minutes of the game coming away with a single penalty goal.  The Pelicans took charge of the game midway through the first half and never let up.  Five different  Pelicans scored tries throughout the game; James (center), Austin (fly-half), Wayne (hooker), and Tintin (scrum-half) and Jakobi (center)  picked up two tries each. Worth mentioning is Taylor Dowell’s (flanker) performance - it was his first appearance for Pelican RFC. Taylor has proved to be crucial player with his solid tackles and swift breakthroughs, for that reason he was voted Man of the Match. Thanks to a great teamwork, determination and discipline the Pelicans home opener was a resounding victory 43-3.

After enjoying the victory on Saturday, players are already back to getting ready for next match on February 9th when they will travel to Daytona Beach to face off Daytona Coconuts. Hope to see you there!
